EDIT July 21, 2011 - This piece has been featured here ( [link] ) by the You Will Rise Project. The You Will Rise Project is an absolutely fabulous organization that features bullying and descrimination-themed artwork. [link]
Someone I knew was recently bullied to death.
He was one of my fellow cellists in my school's orchestra and he had the strangest obsession with rubik's cubes. He would always light up everyone's day with his humoresque, and I honestly think I've seen him smiling more times than not.
That's why everyone was so suprised when it happened. He had never told anyone about the bullies, and noone suspected it because he always seemed so lighthearted and carefree...
The difference between appearance and reality is so slight, but so very very profound.
Bullying Disclaimer: Don't act like it's fuckin' okay to treat people like shit. It's not. If tormenting someone who never did anything to harm you makes you feel better about yourself, then you have a fucking problem. The world is short another amazing person because some testosterone-zealous twelve-year-old douche thought it would be cool if he went out and ostracized someone who was already weaker than him in appearance and social status.
If you know someone is being bullied, standing by and feeling sorry for them isn't doing anyone a favor. Bravery may not really be "your thing", but sometimes you just have to put your armor on, find your muse, and give that sucker what he has coming for him.
This has been a tragedy, but what I find the most sad is that no matter how much I hope and pray, I fear this will never become better. I fear that, as long as society holds this moronic system of values, there will always be prejudice, bigotry, and spite; and someone will have to pay for it.
I'm so sorry to hear this Hunter..... I never saw this, and it's magnificent.... I know your sweet for doing this, and i give thanks to you showing me and presenting such a sweet manner to the world with this work.... I wish you're doing well, or if time has passed, I think this still has the emotional greatness it had in the past
This piece would be perfect for a new project we are developing -- an online gallery for artists who have been bullied or who explore the theme of bullying in their work. It's called the You Will Rise Project. Check it out here: [link] and let us know if you would be willing to share this piece on the site. Read the "Submit Your Work" section of the site for details. Thanks!
You're a sweetheart, too. But you probably already knew that. Keep it up! The best for you!
